Gemotions

The aroma of freshly brewed coffee filled the small kitchen, mingling with the scent of lavender from the potted plant on the windowsill. The sunlight streamed in, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air. He sat at the table, a crossword puzzle spread before him, the pencil a familiar extension of his hand.

He'd noticed it on the shelf at the grocery store. "Mama Rosa's Pasta Sauce," the label read. It was a mirror of his late mother's recipe, the one she'd guarded so fiercely. He hadn't shared it with anyone.

He chuckled softly. He felt a quiet contentment wash over him. His mind felt free, and he found himself lost in the puzzle. The coffee tasted especially good this morning.
