Gemotions

The porch swing creaked rhythmically as Daniel watched the sunset paint the sky with hues of orange and purple. He took a long, slow breath, inhaling the scent of honeysuckle that perfumed the air. Another flash of gold caught his eye. It was Goldie, bounding through his garden again.

He shifted on the swing, his movements unhurried. “Goldie, you rascal,” he said, his voice a low rumble. He rose, stretched, and headed towards the dog. He didn't even quicken his pace. He gave her a gentle pat on the head, then walked with her, back to the worn fence separating the yards. He gently lifted a latch, and watched as Goldie wandered away, before returning to his seat and the evening.
