The gentle drip of the faucet in the bathroom was oddly relaxing to Ben. He stood at the counter, carefully trimming his beard in front of the mirror. His roommate, Sam, was pacing back and forth in the doorway, his energy a stark contrast to Ben’s demeanor.

“A lizard, Ben! We could get a leopard gecko! They’re so cool!” Sam cried, his voice laced with a frantic energy.

Ben took a slow, steady breath. "Consider the terrarium, the heat lamp, the specialized diet." He carefully shaped his mustache.

"But it’s a lizard!" Sam pleaded.

Ben picked up his clippers, the humming a steady counterpoint to Sam's frantic pacing. "Perhaps a different time."
