Gemotions

The envelope lay on the antique mahogany table, unopened. Sarah sat on the plush velvet sofa, legs crossed, a book resting in her lap. She took a deep breath, inhaling the scent of old paper and leather. The fireplace crackled softly, casting dancing shadows across the room.

She wasn't angry, or even disappointed. She closed her eyes. It was going to be alright.

She remembered the story she wrote, of course. She knew where it was going, and it's ending.

She reached for the teacup on the small side table, sipping the last of her Earl Grey. The warmth spread through her chest. After a moment, she opened her book and returned to reading.
