The emergency lights cast a reddish glow over everything, turning the familiar elevator into something alien. Jessica folded her arms, studying the illuminated numbers above the door. Three hours seemed like a long time.

Her phone still had a signal, but she decided to leave it untouched. She found that constantly checking the time only amplified the feeling of being trapped.

“I’m sure someone will find us soon,” she said to Ben, offering a small smile.
