Gemotions

The crisp white envelope felt smooth between Elias's fingers. He tapped it lightly against the kitchen counter, the sound almost a gentle percussion against the quiet morning. Sunlight streamed through the window, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air. He poured himself another cup of coffee, the aroma rich and familiar, and placed the envelope on the side, next to his plate of untouched toast. He’d get around to it eventually.

He opened the fridge, the cool air washing over his face. He hummed a tuneless melody while deciding which yoghurt flavour to choose. His gaze drifted to the eviction notice; he could see the precise font and letter placement. It was a well-crafted piece of paper. Finally, he selected the strawberry yoghurt.

He ate slowly, savouring each spoonful. Afterward, he fetched his jacket and keys. The air outside was fresh. The sun warmed his back. He whistled as he walked down the street. The notice could wait.
