Sunlight streamed through the living room window, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air. Amelia sipped her tea, the Earl Grey a familiar comfort. She traced the smooth ceramic of the mug, its warmth seeping into her fingertips. Her mother's handwriting, bold and slightly slanted, filled the page of the bucket list. "Learn to play the ukulele." A gentle smile touched Amelia's lips. She felt a peacefulness settle over her, a quiet acceptance of the quiet.

She carefully unfolded the list, the paper crackling softly. "Visit the Grand Canyon." Amelia pictured her mother standing on the rim, a scarf billowing in the breeze.
