Gemotions

The box was a plain, metal container, painted a faded blue. It lay beneath a tree in the woods, nestled in a bed of fallen leaves. A simple, black marker had been used to label it. "My Memories." Emily ran a hand across the side. She had no recollection of ever setting eyes on this.

She pulled open the lid, revealing a collection of items. A drawing of a dog, a small, stuffed bear, and a collection of dried flowers. She handled each thing, a gentle expression on her face. She recognised the drawing, the bear, the flowers. She knew the day of the burial.

She closed the box, replacing it in the earth. She walked away.
