Liam practically bounced into the pawn shop, the door's bell jingling merrily. He’d just landed a new client, a fantastic gig that would finally allow him to splurge on that vintage guitar he'd been drooling over. The air inside smelled of old metal and forgotten hopes, but Liam barely registered it. He felt like he could take on the world.

He was scanning the cases when something sparkled. He leaned closer, and the glint of the sunlight through the grimy window hit the ring just right. It was a beautiful thing. He remembered his grandmother always wore a ring like this, her pride and joy.

A sudden, unexpected energy surged through him. He pointed to the ring, a wide grin splitting his face. "I'll take a look at that one, please!" The shop owner, a woman with a face etched with the weariness of too many transactions, raised a weary eyebrow.
