The morning sun streamed through the window, painting gold across Maya's desk as she bounced on the balls of her feet, humming a jaunty tune. She’d just finished her history paper, and the feeling of accomplishment bubbled within her like a fizzy drink. She clicked "save" and leaned back, stretching luxuriously, a wide grin plastered across her face. Then, the email arrived. It was from Professor Davies, subject: "Academic Integrity." Her stomach dropped, though she tried to shake off the momentary chill. This was ridiculous, she thought, this must be some sort of mistake.

A quick shower and fresh clothes later, Maya strode across campus, whistling. The breeze tugged at her ponytail, and the world seemed to shimmer with an extra layer of vibrancy. Inside the professor's office, the air hung heavy with a different kind of tension.

“So, Maya," Professor Davies began, his voice flat, gesturing towards the printed document on his desk. “We have some concerns about your paper.” Maya's smile faltered, replaced by a polite, somewhat brittle expression. She leaned forward, eager to resolve this.
