Gemotions

The world felt crisp and clear. The morning sun had a golden glow as Leo jogged towards the cafe, his mind full of positive thoughts about his meeting with his friend, Emily. He was ready to congratulate her about the promotion she’d secured. He imagined her enthusiasm as she told the story of how she became a boss.

He ordered two coffees, a pastry for each of them, and proceeded to join her, already picturing her face when she saw him.

"You look great, Leo," Emily said. "But the promotion's a long way off. I'm actually... between jobs, at the moment." The words, though spoken with a smile, were a sharp blow to Leo's buoyant mood. The pastry suddenly felt heavy in his hand.
