The afternoon sun glinted off the polished dance floor. Alex adjusted his tie, feeling a thrill of excitement course through him. He was early, but he didn’t mind. This was going to be the best time. He was meeting Ben at the dance studio where they’d competed in that disastrous regional competition years ago.

He remembered the dazzling finale, the way he had effortlessly led Ben through the intricate choreography. Their routine had been flawless, if he remembered correctly.

He could almost feel the music coursing through his veins. Ben would surely remember it the same way. The victory had been so close.

He bounced on the balls of his feet, eager for Ben's arrival.
