The late afternoon sun painted long shadows across the living room as Maya hummed, meticulously dusting the already gleaming antique furniture. A fresh batch of lemon cookies cooled on the kitchen counter, their zesty aroma clinging to the air. Today was going to be a good day, she just knew it. She glanced at the cardboard box in the attic she’d been meaning to sort through. Time to face the past.

She pushed open the attic door, a sunbeam cutting through the dust motes. The air was thick with the scent of aged paper and forgotten things. Maya wrinkled her nose, then grinned, remembering her mother's words, "Memories are the best treasure, darling."

As she sifted through the box, a wave of fondness washed over her. Here was a carefully crafted diorama of a colonial village, complete with tiny, hand-painted figures. Then, a thick stack of her own school assignments, meticulously labeled and dated. A giggle escaped her lips.
