The aroma of freshly baked bread filled Amelia's kitchen as she hummed, expertly flipping a pancake. Sunlight streamed through the window, illuminating the dust motes dancing in the air. This morning felt particularly bright. She'd finally landed the dream job, the one she'd worked so hard for.

A notification pinged on her phone, and she glanced at the screen, smiling. A friend request. She almost dismissed it, the usual deluge of people she barely knew, until she saw the name: Mark Jenkins. Her smile faltered slightly. Mark Jenkins. From elementary school.

He had been the reason she hid in the library at recess. The mere thought of him twisted her stomach a little. She paused, spatula in hand, before deciding to just ignore it and get back to making pancakes.
