Gemotions

The elevator doors opened, and Emily practically skipped out, eager to start her day. She’d woken up feeling energized. Her first project review was scheduled for later in the morning, and she was certain it would be a success. She practically radiated with a quiet inner glow. The prospect of finally being able to use her new design concepts filled her with anticipatory joy.

She found herself in the breakroom, ready to grab a cup of coffee. She heard a hushed conversation between two of her coworkers. One of them was Sarah, and she was talking about the team budget.

“…and I told them, he’s absolutely worth it. He’s going to make this project a complete success, and the new salary reflects that.” Sarah’s voice was full of conviction.

Emily's own heart skipped a beat. She stood there, frozen.

Later in the day, she took a walk around the block, breathing in the fresh air. The warmth in her chest had diminished, replaced by a strange tightness.
