Gemotions

The morning sun spilled across Maya's kitchen, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air. She hummed as she poured herself a cup of coffee, the aroma of the brewing beans filling her with a sense of well-being. Today was a good day, she just knew it. She skipped towards the mailbox, her feet barely touching the ground.

A crisp, cream-colored envelope nestled amongst the usual bills and junk mail. No return address. Curious, Maya tore it open. Inside, a card. It read, "Happy Birthday!" in elegant script. No signature. She grinned, a genuine, wide smile that stretched from ear to ear. It felt like a small, delightful secret.

She twirled back inside, placing the card on her kitchen counter. She thought, "Who could it be?" A little giggle escaped her lips. The day was already a success, even before she started it.
