The morning sunlight streamed through the kitchen window, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air. Sarah hummed along to the upbeat pop song blasting from her phone as she flipped pancakes, expertly tossing them in the air. A wide grin stretched across her face. This DNA test result was going to be the cherry on top of a perfect week. She'd been feeling so…light.

She'd splurged on the Ancestry.com kit on a whim. Her family was close-knit, loving. But a tiny, niggling curiosity had always been there, a whisper in the back of her mind. She'd always felt a pull toward travel and new experiences, and now she felt a deep sense of anticipation.

Her phone buzzed. The results were in. Her heart did a little flutter as she clicked the link. The screen displayed a list of names, and then, a banner: "You have a new match: Eleanor Vance." A photograph, a woman with kind eyes and a familiar smile, appeared below.
