Gemotions

The morning sun streamed through the kitchen window, bathing everything in a warm glow. Elara hummed a jaunty tune as she flipped pancakes, the scent of butter and maple syrup filling the air. Her father's voice, raspy with age, called from the living room. "Elara, dear, could you come here a moment?"

A giggle bubbled up from her throat. She ladled the last of the batter onto the griddle, then skipped into the living room, her bright floral apron swaying. There, on the antique mahogany table, sat the tarnished silver locket her grandmother had always worn. Her father’s eyes were twinkling. "I think it’s time to let go of this, little bird," he said, the corners of his mouth upturned in amusement. "It’s been gathering dust long enough."

She bounced on the balls of her feet. "Sell it? But Daddy, it's so beautiful!" She reached for the locket, turning it over in her hands, her fingers tracing the intricate carvings. "It deserves a new home, one where it'll be loved, and maybe even worn." He winked. "And the funds can help me buy a new set of golf clubs."
