The coffee shop buzzed with a low hum of conversation, but Daniel barely noticed. He was lost in the glow of the acceptance letter, the official seal practically radiating. The scholarship had changed everything; it was a victory he savored, a ticket to a future he had only dared to dream of. He tapped his foot, anticipating the beginning.

He grinned at his reflection in the window, already picturing himself in the bustling university hallways. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee, usually enough to soothe him, was nearly unnoticeable now. He was a rocket, ready to launch, his engines practically roaring with anticipation.

An email from the scholarship department arrived. He opened it eagerly, the words on the screen slowly rearranging into a different, unwelcome configuration. "We regret to inform you…" it began. Daniel's breath caught in his throat, the world outside the coffee shop suddenly seemed less bright.
