Sunlight streamed through the kitchen window, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air as Maya hummed, flipping pancakes with practiced ease. The aroma of maple syrup filled the room, a warm blanket on her senses. This morning felt particularly bright, each movement imbued with a spring. She’d decided to bake blueberry muffins too, because, why not?

She rummaged in the back of a dusty drawer, hunting for a whisk she rarely used. Her fingers brushed against stiff, aged paper. Pulling it free, she recognized her own slanted handwriting from years gone by. It was a letter addressed to her own mother, never mailed. A grin spread across her face.
