The elevator's sudden stillness brought a skip to Michael's step. "Well, this is just grand!" he said, his voice brimming with an irrepressible joy. He glanced at his colleague, Susan, whose face was a picture of gloom.

He paid her no mind. Instead, he pulled out a small, well-worn book from his pocket. He flipped it open, inhaling the scent of aged paper and leather. "Perfect timing!" he exclaimed, his eyes lighting up.

He began to read aloud, his voice taking on different inflections for each character. He did not mind the close proximity of the other person; he was in his own world, a universe of exciting tales and thrilling situations. He felt alive with delight.
