Eliza hummed a jaunty tune, the sunlight warming her face as she rummaged through her father’s old desk. After a successful morning baking apple pies, she couldn't contain her upbeat feeling. The aroma still clung to her clothes, and the thought of sharing them with her family later filled her with contentment.

She uncovered a leather-bound journal, its pages filled with his elegant script. It was a treasure trove of his thoughts, his dreams, his daily struggles. But tucked inside, she discovered a single sheet of paper, a letter typed on an old typewriter.

It was a draft, addressed to the head of his former company. Her father, a man of quiet fortitude, was resigning, expressing his frustrations with an unusual level of sarcasm. A giggle escaped her lips. The words vibrated with suppressed emotion, of a man wanting more. She could almost hear his voice as she read, a deep chuckle bubbling up from within.
