Gemotions

The aroma of freshly brewed coffee filled Amelia's apartment, a perfect counterpoint to the morning sunlight streaming through the kitchen window. She hummed a little tune, already planning her day. A quick jog, a spot of gardening, maybe a visit to the new art gallery downtown. Life, lately, felt exquisitely light.

She skipped into the study, intent on grabbing her running shoes. Her partner, Daniel, was usually still asleep at this hour, but today he wasn’t. He sat hunched over his laptop, eyes glued to the screen, a half-empty mug beside him.

“Morning, sleepyhead!” she chirped, leaning in for a kiss. Daniel jumped, startled. He quickly closed the laptop, a guilty flush creeping up his neck.

“Oh, hey,” he mumbled, his voice a little too loud. “Just… working.” He gestured vaguely at the closed computer. Amelia’s smile faltered for a fraction of a second, but she quickly recovered it. "That's great! What are you working on?" She reached over to hug him, noticing the laptop was still in his lap. "You were writing something exciting."
