Gemotions

The drilling next door had started before sunrise. It rattled through the walls of her house, and the constant din had gotten under her skin. She knew that old Mrs. Gable was having her house remodeled. She thought of how long she had lived there.

Instead of getting angry, she got dressed and went to the local bakery. She bought a box of muffins and a few coffees. She walked across the road and offered them to the workmen.

"Good morning," she called over the noise. "Thought you might want a little something to get you going."

The foreman, a burly man with kind eyes, gave her a tired smile. "Well, ma'am, thank you very much. That's mighty thoughtful of you."
