Gemotions

The noise had been unrelenting all morning. The air buzzed with the whine of power tools and the shouts of the workers. From her window, Emily could see her neighbour, David, overseeing the work on his new extension.

She knew David had a bad back and it was clear, from the strained way he moved, that he was struggling. She noticed him bend down to lift a heavy timber.

Emily went to her kitchen and packed a flask of tea and a plate of biscuits. She walked over to David, approaching him slowly. "David, are you alright?"

He straightened up, wincing. "Fine, just… a long day."

"I made tea," she said, handing him the flask and the plate. "And, perhaps, a biscuit."

A small smile flickered across his face. "Emily, you’re a lifesaver."
