"You're moving to goalie," Coach barked. Liam, the team’s prolific forward, swallowed hard. He looked at the current goalie, Miguel, who had been struggling with confidence lately, and he felt a knot form in his stomach.

He understood the weight of that position; the spotlight of pressure, the isolation. He knew Miguel was trying his hardest. He imagined Miguel's relief, but also, his guilt.

“No problem, Coach,” Liam said, trying to sound as reassuring as possible. Then, he focused on Miguel. "Hey, man. Let me know what you need. We'll work on it together. We have to work together, you know?" He made an effort to connect with Miguel more, talking more on the field.
