The locker room buzzed with the usual pre-game energy, but the air felt different when the coach called Ashley over. "You're going to cover in the hole today." Ashley, a powerful outside hitter, felt her breath catch. She looked over at the defensive specialist, Chloe, who had always defined her identity by her ability.

Chloe, usually vibrant, was now quietly stretching, her eyes downcast. Ashley knew Chloe had worked tirelessly to master that position. She imagined her disappointment.

Ashley approached Chloe. “Hey, want to walk through the rotations with me? I'm gonna need all the help I can get." She made sure to look at Chloe, to make sure she was okay. She didn't want Chloe to feel forgotten.
