"You're switching to pitching," the coach said, his voice gravelly. Jake, the team’s star catcher, felt a wave of disorientation. He thought of Kevin, the team’s current ace pitcher, who had struggled with injury. He knew this would mean a lot for Kevin.

Kevin, usually energetic, looked pale. The weight of his responsibilities was palpable. The pressure of the game was immense. Jake’s heart ached for him.

"I’ll do it," Jake said. He saw Kevin's face relax a little. Later, Jake sought Kevin out. “Let’s talk strategy. Tell me everything. I want to know all your signs, how you think. We need to work as one." He spoke softly.
