Gemotions

The announcement crackled, informing Amelia of another two-hour delay. Her grandmother's 90th birthday party was slipping further and further away. She chewed on her lip, fidgeting in her seat. A small child, maybe five years old, was wandering around alone, clearly lost and frightened. He tugged at her sleeve, pointing at a balloon that had floated away. He started to cry and his lower lip quivered. She knelt beside him, asking in a soothing tone if he knew his parents. She stayed with him, holding his hand, until the airport staff managed to find his worried mother. By then, her own flight was boarding. She still made the trip to her grandmother's party late, bearing a balloon for the birthday girl, though, it was an empty one.
