“Delayed due to unforeseen circumstances,” the robotic voice echoed. Michael was supposed to be at his daughter’s school play. He slumped into a seat, burying his face in his hands. A woman across from him was frantically rummaging through her purse. She was late for her own flight and had lost her boarding pass. Michael, seeing her panic, offered to help. He spent the next hour working with airport staff to locate her lost pass. He eventually gave up on his own flight, knowing his daughter’s play was already well underway. He saw the woman off, her face filled with gratitude.
