Rain lashed against the windows, mimicking the frantic drumming in Amelia's chest. She found the phone tucked beneath the couch cushions, nestled in a forgotten throw blanket. Liam’s call history showed a number she didn't recognise, a string of calls lasting longer than any work chat he'd mentioned. Amelia picked up the phone, her fingers trembling, and stared at the dark screen. The thought of confronting him felt like a physical blow. She pictured his face, the way his eyes crinkled when he smiled. Instead of immediate action, she set the phone down, smoothed the blanket, and went to make tea.
