The flickering candlelight illuminated Ethan’s face as he listened to Ben recount the fateful night they'd argued, years ago, at their friend's party. Ben described a confrontation, Ethan's words supposedly sharp and cruel. The story involved a woman. Ben's voice cracked.

"You were so angry, Ethan. You said things... things I can't forget." Ben swallowed, the pain evident in his eyes.

Ethan's recollection was softer. He remembered the woman’s flirtation, Ben's jealous whispers, and the way the entire situation had gotten out of control. He remembered his words being careful, measured, not cruel. But he also knew the pain Ben had felt. “I remember… things a little differently,” Ethan began, his voice low, wanting to soothe the lingering hurt. He wanted Ben to feel okay. He poured them both another glass of wine, then placed a hand gently on Ben's arm, his fingers tightening slightly.
