“I can’t believe you let me get lost, Mark!” Emily’s voice was sharp, echoing through the empty art gallery. They were discussing their childhood trip to the city museum.

Mark winced. He remembered it differently. He remembered Emily’s fascination with a particular exhibit, her relentless enthusiasm to be with it. He remembered the crowds, the disorientation. He remembered his own panic when he couldn't find her. He remembered her being upset and scared, but also the way she laughed when they finally found each other. "I searched everywhere," he said softly, trying to soften the harshness of her memory. He wanted her to remember the joy, the fun. He remembered the feeling of relief when he saw her. He wanted her to feel good.
