The email arrived like a punch to the gut. The blog post. Her diary, digitized and exposed. Emily’s breath hitched, and her hands began to tremble. Her initial reaction was to scream, to lash out. Then, she saw the comments. Cruel, impersonal judgments. The girl she’d been, vulnerable, seeking understanding, was now a public spectacle. Her heart clenched, a physical sensation. She closed her eyes, remembering all the people who were kind to her when she was a child. She opened the comments and wrote, “I hope you all find someone to treat you with tenderness.”
