Ethan found him in the spare room, hunched over a laptop, headphones clamped tightly to his ears. The screen was filled with Cyrillic script. He had been so focused on learning her language, it seemed. She leaned against the doorframe, watching him.

He looked up, startled, then flushed, self-conscious. She took a step inside, a smile playing on her lips. "Come here," she said, motioning him closer. She sat down beside him, tracing the unfamiliar letters on the screen with her finger. "Let me help." The feeling of closeness was overwhelming.
