He found out at work, a casual mention from a coworker. “Did you hear about The Golden Spoon?” Thomas stared, his coffee suddenly tasting bitter. His stomach twisted with a strange ache. It had been his father's favorite place, where they'd always gone for their special dinners.

He pushed away from his desk, the fluorescent lights of the office seeming to glare. He walked past the break room, ignoring the chatter, and walked out the front door. He headed straight for The Golden Spoon.

He noticed that the window was covered with a hand-lettered sign, announcing its final day. He felt a lump in his throat. He went inside, and sat at his father’s usual table.
