He walked through the house, the sun casting long shadows through the dusty windows. His sister, Amelia, was already looking up contractors, planning new electrical wiring and plumbing. He saw the old, worn armchair in the corner, where his grandmother always sat, knitting. He felt a profound sense of loss, a deep ache in his heart.

He looked at the tapestry hanging over the fireplace, hand-stitched by his grandmother. He ran his fingers over the intricate design, remembering her stories of the creation. The thought of losing this part of her, of losing the house, was nearly unbearable.

He envisioned the garden, the flowers that his grandmother had spent hours tending. He decided he would start gardening.

He knew he had to convince his sister. He knew this house was a part of his heritage. He had to show her that it was important to him.

“Maybe,” he began, his voice trembling, “We could… keep some things as they are?”
