The invitation, with its glossy finish, was a reminder of something Rebecca had tried to forget. She had been the "smart" girl, and she remembered the way she had felt. She remembered the times she was excluded. She felt the need to make things right.

She started by looking up old friends. She knew that they were all facing challenges that she didn’t know about. She sent a message to everyone.

At the reunion, she watched the room. She listened, and she sought out the quiet ones. She looked for the people who seemed to be struggling. When she saw someone alone, she went over and struck up a conversation. She asked how they were, and listened intently.
