The betrayal stung, a viper’s bite. Michael, his roommate, had clearly been snooping. His journal, filled with anxieties and dreams, lay on the desk slightly ajar. He felt a profound sense of disgust.

He imagined Michael, a quiet, introverted guy, probably feeling terrible right now. He knew Michael was struggling with the pressure of a difficult class.

Walking to the communal desk, he grabbed a bag of microwave popcorn. Popping a bag, he returned to the room and gently placed the warm snack by Michael's side of the room. He didn’t say anything, just went back to his own work, hoping Michael would feel alright.
