The old house, once vibrant with life, was now boarded up, a shell of its former self. Ben watched from across the road, his hands shoved deep into his pockets. The wrecking ball swung, a metal pendulum of destruction, and his stomach lurched with each impact.

He recalled his father teaching him to ride his bike on the driveway, the scraped knees, the victorious grins. A wave of regret washed over him. He should have come back sooner, walked through the rooms one last time, touched the walls, absorbed the memories. Now, all that remained were fleeting images, fragments of a past lost forever to the advancing machinery.
