Gemotions

The air hung heavy with the scent of dust and the metallic tang of machinery. David stood amidst the chaos, a single red rose clutched in his hand. He’d found it in his mother's old garden. He walked slowly, dodging the debris, his pace slow, his eyes taking it all in one last time.

He thought of his mother, her green thumb, her infectious smile, her love for the roses. He would give her the rose, if he could. He was filled with a need to honor the past. He placed the rose at the base of the house, a small gesture of respect, a quiet goodbye.
