"Denied." The single word reverberated in Maria's mind. Her 'Smart Braille Tablet' was a beautiful piece of equipment, but some other inventor had beat her to the punch. The patent application was rejected. She bit her lip, holding the rejection letter.

The image of her brother, blind since birth, filled her thoughts. She had spent a year teaching him how to use Braille. She remembered how difficult it had been for him when he couldn't get the same access to knowledge as his siblings.

She looked up the patent holder, a big company with deep pockets. She sent them a note. The note didn't contain demands; it contained a story. Her brother's story. She hoped the people at the company would see it. She wanted them to know how it felt to be trapped in darkness.

She wasn't looking for money. She only wanted her brother to be able to have access to the same things as his peers.
