Gemotions

The clinking of glasses and the murmur of conversation created a gentle background noise as David walked towards the podium. He took a moment to look at his parents, their faces lit with happiness. He took a deep breath, and felt his throat constrict.

He started, “Mom and Dad, it’s hard to believe this day has come.” He remembered the times his parents had picked him up when he was feeling low. The times they cheered him up when he was feeling glum.

He thought of all the times his parents had put their children first, even when it meant they had to go without. He thought of all the times they worked with unwavering resolve to build a safe and warm home. He paused, gathering his thoughts.

“You have shown me the value of… kindness, of loyalty, and of… generosity,” he continued. He saw his mother wiping a tear away. His father gave him a proud look. “Thank you for everything.”
