The news came during dinner, her mom read aloud a post by Mr. Henderson, her debate coach. It was a post about the importance of youth voices, which featured a picture of her.

Her mom had a proud look on her face. Her first reaction was shock, then embarrassment. She usually kept to herself, preferring to keep a distance from the more outgoing members of the debate club.

Mr. Henderson had been her teacher for years, she always respected his calm demeanour. She re-read the post. It spoke of her tenacity, her insightful arguments.

She had to remind herself that her teacher spent his time getting students ready for debate. She smiled, then took her phone and liked the post. It was nice to be seen.
