Mark stared at the letter. The cramped writing was unmistakably his own. It was a confession, written to his ex-wife, Lisa, years ago, detailing his mistakes and begging for forgiveness. He’d torn it up then, too ashamed to reveal his vulnerabilities. Now, the paper was frayed and marked with the passage of time.

He found Lisa's address, and felt a strange calm as he made his way to his car.
