Gemotions

The flickering candlelight cast dancing shadows on the walls of the small study. Robert carefully unfolded the letter. He stared at his own handwriting, stiff and formal, addressed to his son, who was away at college. He'd written it during a period of intense worry, expressing his fears and his love. He'd never mailed it, believing he would just make his son anxious.

He closed his eyes, remembering the young man who had once been so dependent on him. A wave of tenderness washed over him. He felt an urge to protect him, even now.

Robert reached for his own pen and paper. He had another letter to write.
