Gemotions

The small space felt suffocating. The man across from me was getting increasingly agitated. He had a look of panic.

I sat down on the floor and spread my arms, inviting him to join me. "Want to sit? It might feel better."

He looked at me, then slowly nodded, sinking down beside me. I leaned back against the wall, trying to create a sense of spaciousness.

"Think about something nice," I suggested. "A peaceful place. A time you felt safe." I closed my eyes myself and began to visualize the ocean.

I stayed silent for a long time, only speaking when he seemed to be on the verge of relapsing.
