Gemotions

The boardroom door swung open, and the news followed: Emily was chosen. Across the room, John looked away, a mask of composure attempting to conceal the clear disappointment. They’d worked side-by-side for years, their careers intertwined in a constant dance of rivalry and respect.

Emily felt a wave of conflicting emotions, joy mixed with…something else. She knew John’s ambition, the fire that burned beneath his surface. She recalled his late nights, his dedication. She watched him pack his briefcase, his movements slow and deliberate.

Later, she found him at his desk, staring out the window. "John," she said softly, approaching him. "I just wanted to say…you were incredible with the Zenith proposal. I'm sorry."

He turned, his face a study in controlled emotion. “Thanks, Emily.”

She hesitated, then added, “Seriously, you were phenomenal. They made the right choice, but you still performed at a high level."
