The silence in the house was almost deafening after the closing. As Mark explored, he realized the house had a secret. A neighbor, with a hushed voice, mentioned the previous owner’s fate: murdered. The whispers were followed by a chill that seemed to seep into the walls.

He had expected a fresh start, but now the past seemed to permeate everything. He couldn't shake the image of the crime scene photos he’d found online. The victim. Mark felt a sense of obligation. He had to honor the person who had once lived here, to somehow make amends for the tragedy.

He spent weeks researching the victim, piecing together the details of their life. He learned about their hobbies, their friends, their dreams. He started a small memorial garden in the backyard, planting flowers and a small plaque with the victim's name. It wasn't much, but it felt like a beginning.
