The sleek, modern office was a stark contrast to the faded, chaotic classroom he remembered. Across the room, sat Daniel. He had the same piercing eyes, but his expression was softer, his shoulders less tense. Daniel, the boy who’d tripped him in the school hallway, the one who’d called him names.

He’d almost turned and run when he saw the nameplate. But his need for help, for some kind of understanding, had been greater.
